The first group I'm gonna look at is Avalon. They won the 1998 Dove award for best new artists because of their sophomore album "A Maze of Grace", and I think they totally deserved it! The album is awesome. In my opinion it has to be one of the best Christian cd's ever, period. It is just that good. And now they have a new album out, which is also absolutely incredible. It's called "In a Different Light", and it is their first album with new singer Cherri, who took the place of Nikki. I have the album, and I can assure you that it is really, really, really good. I have a hard time trying to decide whether it is better than "A Maze of Grace", but I think it actually is! That's saying something too cause "A Maze of Grace" was so good. Anyway, both albums have a really great message, and there's never any doubt that Avalon wants to honor and glorify Christ through their music, which is important.
Avalon not only puts out a clear message, but they have a great sound too. It makes you want to listen to them over and over! Their harmony is beyond belief, and you just have to listen to them yourself to understand what I'm saying. Avalon consists of two guys (Jody and Michael), and two ladies (Janna and Cherrie-used to be Janna and Nikki, but Nikki recently signed her own contract with Sony and now Cherrie is her replacement) who can both sing like crazy! Avalon is an incrediblely talented group, and they always make sure that God gets the glory for their success, which is just so cool in my opinion!! That's pretty much it for now, but PLEASE check out their albums if you get the chance cause I promise you won't be disappointed!!
6-5-01 Avalon released their 5th album (Their 4th was Joy, a Christmas album released for Christmas 2000)
May 22, 2001. It's called Oxygen, and it's their best yet. Trully amazing stuff. I don't know how they do it,
but they do it, so go pick it up. Good stuff.
